XWD vs PS:
|Full name||X Windows System Window Dump||Adobe PostScript File|
|Developed by||X Window System||Adobe Systems|
|Type of format||Image file formats||Printing file format|
|Introduction||In the X Window System, the program xwd (X Window dump) captures the content of a screen or of a window and optionally saves it into a file.||PostScript (PS) is a computer language for creating vector graphics. It is a dynamically typed, concatenative programming language. It is used as a page description language in the electronic and desktop publishing areas.|
|Technical details||xwd runs in one of two ways: if a user specifies the whole screen or the name or identifier of a window as an argument, the program captures the content of the window; otherwise, it changes the shape of the cursor and waits for the user to click in a window, whose content is then captured.||PostScript is a Turing-complete programming language, belonging to the concatenative group. Typically, PostScript programs are not produced by humans, but by other programs. However, it is possible to write computer programs in PostScript just like any other programming language.|
